Volunteering

Give a little, gain a lot: Volunteer!

Volunteering is a fabulous way to make a difference,

develop skills and check out possible career paths. You’ll make new friends, have a break from your studies and get a different view of Bath.

Volunteering can take whatever form you like - on or off campus, with young people or the elderly, artistic or environmental: The choice is yours, and JustV can help find the perfect opportunity for you!

How much time can you give?

A day:

If you don't have much time, ‘Quickies’ are for you! These are one-off, one-day activities with local charities and you can sign up for as many or as few as you like.

You could:

  • Run craft activities with families during the Lunar New Year Celebrations
  • Construct animal shelters at Bath City Farm
  • Pack survival boxes for disaster-hit countries
  • Marshal at a local music festival

Don’t worry if you don't know anyone at the start of the day; you soon will! We’ll provide transport and will provide lunch and drinks. We’ll even shout you a drink at the end of the day! Check out the latest opportunities!

A few hours each week for a term:

If you want to volunteer regularly but want to balance this with other commitments, a short term project may be for you. You’ll volunteer with a team of other students with a local organisation or charity for a few hours each week for around 5-8 weeks. It’s a great way to get to know a charity in depth whilst knowing that you’re only committed for a month or two. You could end up running a healthy eating campaign with a local youth club, coming up with ideas for a primary school's gardening club or animal care at Bath Cats and Dogs Home.

You’ll get all the training you need from the organisation, plus a general induction into volunteering from Just V before you start.

A few hours a week:

If you’d like to make a regular commitment of a few hours each week, then JustV can help find the right opportunity for you. We have many volunteer placements with local organisations in Bath or Bristol. Roles vary from youth work to PR to befriending to conservation and much more: You're bound to find something which appeals. These opportunities tend to suit students who have some existing voluntary experience (although this isn't a requirement) and are happy to volunteer reasonably independently. You’ll need to attend a JustV Induction before you get started and then you’re good to go!

Getting started:
