You've got this far, so you're obviously interested in volunteering. Have you ever thought though that volunteering can have a hugely positive impact on you? In case you need any more encouragement here are just a few of the benefits of getting involved:
Volunteering makes a difference – You may not realise it, but the voluntary activities you take part in will make a real difference to people's lives or the environment. Many of the organisations we work with simply don't have the resources todo the tasks they'd like to, so your input as a volunteer can be crucial - and is always appreciated.
Volunteering is fun and fulfilling! - Don't underestimate the 'feel-good' factor you get from helping others out, and the sense of satisfaction you'll get from your accomplishments.
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people - All Quickies are run as team activities, so you'll get to meet loads of other Bath Spa Students. However, whichever type of volunteering you do the chances are you'll meet like minded people. Additionally, depending on the type of activity to you do, volunteering may bring you into contact with groups of people you wouldn't normally meet, such as children, elderly people, or refugees etc.
Volunteering develops skills for life and work- In pretty much any volunteer activity, you’ll have to think on your feet. But there might be other occasions where you lead a team, write marketing material, organise an event, fundraise and so on. You'll also develop your personal skills such as communication, teamwork and problem solving.
Volunteering can influence your career choice – Maybe you’re not sure whether a certain career might suit you. Then why not volunteer in that field to see whether you’re cut out for it? Or maybe through your volunteering you’ll find an entirely new career path. Whatever you decide, volunteering is a great way to get experience of a career you're interested in, and helps you identify the challenges and opportunities you may come across.
Finally, volunteering improves your employability - There is no doubt that employers highly value volunteering; it proves that you’re a proactive, rounded individual and you’ll gain references for application forms.The Graduate market is increasingly competitive and volunteering makes you stand out from the crowd.
